Field care

-A good bird mount begins with a good bird. Birds harvested later in the season are more mature and better feathered. However, sometimes that once in a lifetime bird or special experience can come before a bird matures. Under these circumstances we can work with your trophy.

-Most shot damage resulting in broken wings and feet can be fixed, however a wing that has been blown apart will not make a good flying mount. Keep in mind that some poses will look better than others depending on the damage.

-When you harvest a bird do not ring its neck nor hang it by the neck. Pressure on the back to compress the lunges will dispatch a bird. Carry it out by the feet.

-Keep the bird out of the sun and cool the bird as soon as possible

-Do not attempt to breast the bird out, leave the bird whole.

-Wash any dirt or blood off with cold water

-Tuck the head in by the body, not stretched out.

-Place bird in gallon baggy or garbage bag and seal it off to prevent air flow.

-Care should be given to birds with longer tails to prevent them from bending.

-Put bird in freezer until you are able to bring it into the studio.
